WikiRadius Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 5, 2026

Summary: WikiRadius does not collect, store, or share your personal data with anyone. Your data stays on your devices and in your private iCloud account.

Introduction

WikiRadius ("the App") is developed by AkiCreative Inc. ("we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it on iPhone and Apple Watch.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or have access to any of your personal information. Specifically:

  • We do not operate any servers that receive your data.
  • We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising frameworks.
  • We do not create user accounts or profiles.
  • We do not collect device identifiers or usage statistics.
  • We have no access to your location data, saved articles, or any other information.

Location Data

WikiRadius uses your device's location to find Wikipedia articles near you. This is how the core feature of the App works.

  • Location access is requested only with your explicit permission ("While Using the App").
  • Your location is sent directly from your device to the Wikipedia API to retrieve nearby articles. It is not sent to us or any other party.
  • Your location data is not stored persistently. It is used only for the duration of each request.
  • You can revoke location access at any time in your device's Settings.

iCloud Sync

If you save articles, WikiRadius uses Apple's CloudKit service to sync your saved articles across your personal devices (iPhone and Apple Watch) via your private iCloud account.

  • This data is stored in your personal, private iCloud container. We cannot access it.
  • Synced data includes article titles, coordinates, descriptions, and thumbnail URLs — all of which is publicly available information from Wikipedia.
  • iCloud sync requires you to be signed in to iCloud on your device. If you are not signed in, saved articles are stored locally on your device only.

Wikipedia API

The App communicates directly with the public Wikipedia API to fetch article information, content, thumbnails, and geographic data. These requests are made from your device to Wikipedia's servers. We are not an intermediary in this communication. Wikipedia's own Privacy Policy governs their handling of those requests.

Local Storage

The App stores your preferences (such as language, theme, map provider, and display settings) locally on your device using standard iOS storage (UserDefaults). This data never leaves your device and is not synced or shared.

In-App Purchases

WikiRadius offers an optional premium upgrade through Apple's App Store. All purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store any payment information. Apple's Privacy Policy governs these transactions.

Apple Watch

The App includes an Apple Watch companion. The iPhone and Apple Watch communicate directly with each other using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework to share article data. This communication stays between your paired devices and does not pass through any external server.

Third-Party Services

The App interacts with the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

  • Wikipedia / Wikimedia Foundation — for article data (Privacy Policy)
  • Apple iCloud (CloudKit) — for syncing saved articles across your devices (Privacy Policy)
  • Apple Maps / Google Maps — for directions when you choose to navigate to an article's location (governed by Apple or Google privacy policies respectively)

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected, the App is suitable for users of all ages.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
